ONU Homecoming Parade - Twitter Assaignment

This weekend was Ohio Northern University's Homecoming, featuring several on-campus events, including the homecoming parade, tailgate, activities tent and the football game, where the Homecoming Court winners were announced.

For my social media class, we were assigned to live-tweet a Homecoming event. I chose the parade. The day before, this past Friday, I tweeted about my plans to live-tweet the next day's parade. 

The next day, the morning of the parade, I got up early and walked to Main Street. Since I live nearby, it only took a few minutes to reach campus. To keep my followers updated, I posted a five-minute warning before the parade's start. Though scheduled for 10:30 a.m., the parade began slightly late, with public safety vehicles leading the parade around 10:40 a.m. 

The Ohio Northern Color Guard followed, waving ONU Flags and, the Marching Band played as they marched down Main Street. Ohio Northern President Melissa Bauman passed by next, riding in a red convertible, followed by Klondike, our mascot, riding on the back of a golf cart. Up next, the Homecoming Court came through, waving from a train car as the crowd, made up of Ada locals, Alumni and, Ohio Northern students, cheered. After the Homecoming Court, student organizations and Greek Life took part in the parade. This included professional fraternities, campus groups and sororities like Alpha Xi Delta, which I was able to photograph and, fraternities such as Sigma Phi Epsilon and Alpha Sigma Phi.  

To close out the parade, the Ada Fire Department drove through with sirens blaring, ending the event with a bang. I enjoyed seeing all the elected court, organizations, Greek life and, other key members and organizations of Ohio Northern showcase their school spirit, creating a fun and exciting experience for both the local and ONU communities. As it is my senior year, I'm glad I took full advantage of my last year of being a student for Ohio Northern's Homecoming Weekend, attending the Homecoming parade and many of the Homecoming events. This allowed me to connect with other students, alumni and, the Ohio Northern Community as a whole!
